Sensorex Expands SD7000 Differential pH/ORP Sensor Line

Garden Grove, California (August 12, 2016) – Sensorex has expanded its SD7000 family of Differential pH/ORP Sensors, adding four new models to suit a wider range of online process monitoring applications. Sensorex’s proven differential sensor technology produces highly accurate measurements with an overall low cost of ownership. They are ideally suited for measuring pH and ORP in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment and neutralization; metal finishing and plating; wet fume scrubbers; chemical processing; and other online water quality and process applications.

Sensorex expands SD7000 Differential pH/ORP Sensor line.

The three electrode differential sensor design results in less maintenance for operators, minimized down time, longer sensor life and overall greater reliability. Process pH or ORP is measured differentially with process and protected inner reference electrodes, compared to a third ground electrode. The inner reference electrode is surrounded by a known concentrated pH 7 buffer that resists process contamination, maintaining its pH level with minimal dilution effects. A double junction salt bridge further guards against contamination. Both the standard pH 7 cell solution and salt bridge can be replaced periodically at a much lower cost than total sensor replacement.

The new SD7500CD and SD7500CD-ORP are universally compatible with any conventional pH/ORP transmitter or controller, including Sensorex products. The new SD7420CD and SD7420CD-ORP include a direct 4-20mA output for integration into process control systems without requiring an additional 4-20mA transmitter or controller. These sensors are also a direct replacement option for some Hach® and Water Analytics®/Aquametrix probes, as follows:

Both provide local display of values with relay output for alarm or control of process conditions ideal for use with chemical feed systems.

All four models are simple to operate, with push button interface and clear LCD displays. They are designed to save panel space with a small footprint 1/8 DIN enclosure. The devices are 100-240 VAC line-powered.

The UVT-LED-PW has the smallest footprint of any commercially available UV-transmittance sensor for easy integration in new or existing UV disinfection systems. This provides optimal measurement accuracy, minimizes reference junction potential, and eliminates sensor ground loop effects. Less maintenance for operators, minimized down time, longer sensor life and overall greater reliability are hallmarks of this differential sensor design.

SD7000 Series sensors offer unmatched accuracy and reliability with an encapsulated preamp to eliminate moisture problems and allow for mounting up to 3000 feet from installed pH/ORP transmitters and remote monitoring systems. Their 1.5” NPT convertible threads are provided for sensor mounting into flow tees or adapting to a pipe for process submersion. The Ryton sensor body provides outstanding chemical resistance and the double-junction reference resists contamination to ensure measurement stability.

The internal reference electrode is electrically connected to the process solution by means of a field-replaceable double junction salt bridge which reduces the possibility of contamination. The salt bridge and standard pH 7 cell solution can be replaced periodically at a very low cost, making the SD7000 differential sensor very economical to maintain.

Sensorex High-Temperature, High-Pressure Conductivity Sensor for Boilers

CS875 Series withstands extreme conditions

Garden Grove, California (December 18, 2015) – Sensorex’s new in-line high-temperature and high-pressure CS875 conductivity sensor has been designed especially for use in industrial boilers. This rugged sensor provides accurate, repeatable conductivity measurements at saturated steam conditions up to 600 psig (41.4 bar) and temperatures up to 486°F (252°C) without cooling the process sample.

The sensor enables continuous automatic blowdown control, minimizing corrosion and scaling. By eliminating excessive blowdown in higher pressure boilers, energy and treatment chemical use can be reduced. The CS875 sensor is designed for use with most makes and models of conductivity transmitters or controllers.

Sensors have 3/4″ male NPT mounting threads with a 1” insertion depth for easy installation. Both the body and the measuring pin are constructed of 316 stainless steel. A special thermally resistant PEEK insert and high temperature Perfluoroelastomer o-rings ensure reliability at extreme boiler temperatures. Two models are available to suit application requirements – the CS875HT, and the CS875HTTC with ATC temperature element.

All Sensorex probes are supplied with 6″ PTFE coated leads as standard for integral mounting to a forged steel junction box/conduit assembly. Longer cable lengths are also available at additional cost.

Sensorex ORP Sensors Chosen by UC Santa Cruz to Study Strawberry Production Problems

Garden Grove, California (October 14, 2015) – Sensorex ORP sensors have been adopted by a group of researchers at the University of California at Santa Cruz to develop a solution that eliminates the need for toxic chemicals during strawberry production. Over the last decade, the Sensorex S500CD-ORP sensors have monitored oxidation reduction potential (ORP), a key soil parameter, in a series of field and pot experiments investigating the use of anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) as an alternative to harmful fumigants.

California produces approximately 90 percent of the strawberries grown in the United States. Currently, the production methods used most predominantly require harmful fumigants that can sterilize the soil. ASD, a natural and biological alternative, can reduce or eliminate the use of soil fumigation.

ASD offers a non-chemical approach to controlling pests such as soilborne plant pathogens, plant-parasitic nematodes, and weeds in specialty crop systems. In ASD, easily decomposable soil amendments are incorporated into the soil, which is then covered with plastic (polyethylene) mulch, and irrigated. As the soil amendments decompose, they produce byproducts such as organic acids and other volatile compounds that are toxic to soilborne pests. ASD treatment can also encourage the growth of beneficial biocontrol microbes.

Quantifying ORP is critical to monitoring the anaerobic condition of the soil. Professor Carol Shennan, Ph.D., Associate Researcher Joji Muramoto, Ph.D., and their team at UC Santa Cruz use Sensorex ORP sensors for this measurement. The sensors are used both in laboratory experiments and large scale field trials where strawberries are being grown. In the land plots, sensors are buried in the soil, and data is transmitted back to a central data logger.

Sensorex ORP sensors provide reliable, accurate measurement over a range of +/-2000mV (or range of ORP meter). Constructed with durable, chemical resistant bodies, the sensors can withstand temperatures of up to 80°C as well as pressures of up to 50psig. A recessed design protects the measurement surface for long service life. A range of additional options are available to customize sensors to application needs.

The research conducted by the UC Santa Cruz team has demonstrated the efficacy of ASD as a viable alternative to soil fumigation. The research is ongoing to further optimize the process for strawberry and other high-value crop production systems. Continued monitoring of the soil’s ORP using Sensorex’s sensors will be a key part of this study.
