Protect analyzers from ammonium salt formation
Toms River, NJ (January 16, 2009) – Leading gas conditioning products manufacturer Perma Pure has obtained CE certification for its AS™-Series ammonia scrubbers, certifying that they meet EU health, safety, and environmental requirements.
The AS-Series ammonia scrubbers selectively remove ammonia from sample gas streams under analysis. By preventing the formation of ammonium salts, downstream analyzers and components are protected from damage and clogs. The ammonia scrubber can operate as a stand-alone product or as an accessory to a CEMS system. For sample streams with higher dew points, a heated ammonia scrubber is available to inhibit condensation.
The scrubbers were tested and certified through an independent audit by TÜV SÜD America Inc. as compliant with IEC 61010 – 1 : 2001 (2nd Edition); EN 61010 – 1 : 2001 (2nd Edition). These standards relate to safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use.

FC-Series ideal humidification method for fuel cells replacing industrial lead acid batteries
Toms River, NJ (July 1, 2008) – Increased productivity, zero emissions and reduced costs are just a few of the reasons small vehicle manufacturers are looking at fuel cells as an alternative to industrial lead acid batteries. FC-Series humidifiers from Perma Pure provide the efficient water management critical to the operation of these Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells. The compact, lightweight units are available in a range of sizes suitable to virtually any transportation application, from wheelchairs and motorbikes to forklifts and trains.

In PEM fuel cells, where incoming gas must be humid, FC-Series humidifiers provide durable, self-contained humidification. The humidifiers recover water from the fuel cell exhaust and transfer it into the incoming gases by permeation through the walls of Nafion® tubing, a proprietary technology available only from Perma Pure under license from the polymer manufacturer, DuPont. With no moving parts, there is no parasitic power load on the stack, nor are there any parts that can wear, fail or leak. The humidifiers provide over 10,000 continuous hours of operation in Class 1 and Class 3 trucks.
The highly durable devices are shock proof to withstand the vibrations and hard starts and stops inherent in forklift and other vehicle operation. Additionally, the humidifiers are not damaged by wide swings in temperature, permitting operation in extreme environments such as freezer warehouses. The lightweight devices are available in a range of models which may be used alone or in parallel to accommodate any application size.
FC-Series humidifiers are self-limiting and require no controls. Selective permeation ensures that there is no crossover contamination between the exhaust and incoming gases. In addition to moisture exchange, Perma Pure’s humidifiers simultaneously function as heat exchangers, recovering waste heat as well as water from the exhaust.

Supplemental Drying System extends life and improves performance
Toms River, NJ (April 7, 2008) – Leading gas conditioning products manufacturer Perma Pure has introduced a cost effective product for extending the life and improving the performance of gas analysis equipment. The SDS™-Series Supplemental Drying System eliminates the formation of damaging acid mists and improves chiller performance in sample conditioning systems used in refineries, chemical plants and other environmental monitoring settings.

With the ability to lower a sample’s dew point from +4°C to below -15°C, the SDS-Series dryers can reduce total moisture content by an additional 80 percent. This dew point reduction eliminates the formation of acid mists, including downstream SO3 formation in high SO2 services. Acid mist corrosion is minimized, extending analyzer life and ensuring accuracy. Lower moisture content sample streams also improve the sensitivity of infrared measurements.
SDS-Series dryers are available for single (up to 10 lpm) or dual (up to 5 lpm each) samples streams. The dryers can be added on to compensate for undersized chillers, rather than replacing with new systems. They can also be used as the primary gas drying device, providing the sample is non-condensing at ambient temperature. The NEMA 12 rated enclosure is corrosion resistant for long service life.

August 2006
Toms River, NJ (August 21, 2006) – Rapid oxidation of gas samples for Total Organic Carbon (TOC) measurement can produce condensation which interferes with accurate readings. Perma Pure’s MD™-Series and MDH™-Series Dryers remove excess water vapor to keep TOC analyzers in laboratory, food, beverage, pharmaceutical, water, and industrial applications free from damage and inaccurate results.
Using patented Nafion® membrane technology, MD-Series and MDH-Series dryers selectively remove only water vapor from gas samples, leaving the carbon dioxide concentration intact for TOC measurement. With this one step drying solution there is no need for a drip leg, peltier cooler, or desiccant canister. Without moving parts, the dryers are highly reliable and require no routine maintenance.
For gas samples with above-ambient dew points, the integral heater and thermostat in the MDH-Series dryers control temperature and prevent condensation throughout the drying process. This integrated design simplifies installation and operation.
MD-Series dryers are available in stainless steel, fluorocarbon or polypropylene, with a range of sizes to accommodate a variety of applications with flow rates of up to 4 LPM. MDH-Series dryers are designed for gas flows of up to 1 LPM, with as much as 30% water by volume. Either model can be incorporated easily into analyzer cabinets or used as a stand-alone device.

June 2006
Toms River, NJ (June 9, 2006) – Gas samples with a relative humidity of over 85 percent can damage electrochemical sensors (ECS) used to monitor hydrogen sulfide (H2S) at wastewater treatment plants. Condensed water on the cell can flood the sensor, greatly reducing the cell lifetime. Condensation in the sample line can also affect the concentration of highly water soluble H2S. These problems can be eliminated with the Micro-GASS™ Gas Analysis Sampling System from Perma Pure. The system reduces the water content of gases from humid environments to optimal humidity for ECS cells, without altering the concentrations of analyte gases in the sample, producing reliable, accurate results

The Micro-GASS system removes water directly from the vapor phase using patented Nafion® membrane gas dryers. The membrane selectively removes water vapour only, leaving the H2S concentration intact. Drying is a continuous, self-regenerating process with maintenance limited to periodic filter replacement.
The self-contained system requires no additional sample pumps or filters. A built-in pump draws the sample to the ECS cell and continuously removes water vapor from the dryer. The compact, environmentally sealed enclosure resists corrosion and requires only electricity to operate.
