Breathe Easier with Perma Pure Medical Technology at Medica
Toms River, NJ (October 5, 2006) – The latest technology from Perma Pure, designed to achieve moisture balance in medical applications, will be on display at Medica 2006, November 15-18, 2006, in Dusseldorf Germany . The ME™-Series Moisture Exchangers for breath sample dryers, filters and sample lines use proprietary Nafion technology to dry or humidify medical gas and breath sample streams, without altering gas composition and with no utility requirements.

Moisture removal is a critical step prior to analysis in anesthesia monitoring, neonatal monitoring, asthma and respiratory care, metabolic testing, and capnography. Excess water can block sample lines, damage analyzers and reduce the accuracy of analysis. ME Series dryers remove only water vapor from the sample, without removing any of the gases to be analyzed.
In supplemental oxygen systems, extremely dry breathing gases can cause patient discomfort. In these applications, ME-Series moisture exchangers can draw moisture from the room’s atmosphere, efficiently humidifying the gas stream.
In either drying or humidification applications, the ME-Series products seek equilibrium with room humidity, transferring water vapor into or out of the tubing in a stable, self-regenerating cycle. The antibacterial Nafion membrane tubing does not require power input for operation and there are no moving parts to fail. With very low dead volume, the tubing does not cause drops in pressure. In addition, unlike traps and filters, they do not have to be monitored regularly or replaced frequently. With levels of humidification only reaching ambient conditions, there is no threat of rainout in the sample lines.
