Volk iNview Portable Ophthalmic Imager Now iPhone SE Compatible

App upgrade provides SE support, better imaging; hardware upgraded with new optics

Volk Optical has upgraded its Volk iNview portable fundus camera, expanding the range of device compatibility to include the iPhone SE, while also improving both the app and internal optics for even better imaging. Volk iNview makes it easy to take high quality, wide-angle digital color fundus images for general visualization, patient education, referrals and record keeping.

Volk iNview’s indirect ophthalmoscopic lens attachment is compatible with iPhone® and iPod® devices, working in conjunction with the free Volk iNview app to take retinal images on dilated patients. The recent app upgrade provides support for the new iPhone SE, as well as improving the quality of images taken with any compatible device. The device’s custom double aspheric glass optics are optimized for use with Apple devices’ native cameras. These quality internal optics have recently been upgraded, yielding even brighter, sharper images. This improved visualization is especially helpful in patients with darker retinas.

Volk iNview remains the easiest-to-use Apple-compatible fundus imaging device. The app’s auto-capture function takes a rapid series of images, running a proprietary algorithm to present a collection of the best-focused and defined images for review. A manual-capture option also allows experienced users more control over imaging.

The latest app version is available for free download from the Apple App store (search “Volk iNview”). Volk is offering free upgrades of the lens attachment hardware to existing Volk iNview owners. Visit https://volk.com/index.php/inview-upgrade/ for more information.

The Volk iNview works with iPhone 5s, 6, 6s, SE, and iPod Touch (Gen 6) models. A package system that comes with dedicated iPod is also available from Volk.

Volk Optical’s Single Use Laser Lenses Offer Safe, Convenient Imaging

Volk®1 Capsulotomy and Iridotomy lenses reduce disease transmission and eliminate reprocessing

Volk®1 Single Use direct image Capsulotomy and Iridotomy lenses deliver high resolution imaging for laser procedures in a single use design. In Volk1 lenses, the quality of Volk-manufactured optics combine with the safety and convenience of a sterile, single use lens.

To minimize disease transmission, regulatory bodies and hospital groups are increasingly mandating single use medical equipment (when available) over reprocessing reusable instruments. Volk1 lenses eliminate the potential for cross-contamination of infectious disease, as well as cumbersome and costly reprocessing. The cost of equipment, labor, and proper disposal of organic solvent disinfectants associated with processing reusable medical equipment outweighs the cost of single use medical equipment.

With a magnification of 1.57x and a .63x laser spot, the Volk1 Capsulotomy lens allows for precise laser beam placement at the capsular bag. For laser iridotomy procedures, the Volk1 Iridotomy lens provides the highest magnification imaging of the peripheral iris at 1.70x, with a .58x laser spot. Volk1 Capsulotomy and Iridotomy lenses come pre-sterilized in boxes of ten lenses, individually sealed in Tyvek pouches. For a limited time, Volk is offering a free sample pack of lenses.

Eye Check from Volk a Portable Ophthalmic Exam Tool

Mobile, handheld instrument aids in pediatric examination of Strabismus Amplitude.

Volk Optical’s Eye Check, an electronic handheld ocular measurement device, aids in the diagnosis of ophthalmic abnormalities. Capable of a number of key measurements including pupil diameter, horizontal visible iris diameter, inter-pupillary distance, margin reflex distance, pupil eccentricity and strabismus angle, Volk Eye Check helps practitioners screen, diagnose and document ocular characteristics for contact lens fitting and general diagnostic purposes.

Volk Eye Check

Volk Eye Check’s intuitive user interface is easily navigated by physicians and support staff for seamless integration into the practice environment. Its real-time, accurate and objective results enable quick decision making and can be output to electronic records management systems with Wi-Fi connectivity.

For general diagnosis and documentation, Volk Eye Check measures:
• Inter-pupillary distance for eyeglass fitting
• Margin reflex distance for detection and documentation of ptosis in endocrine disorders, as well as pre- and post-surgical comparison
• Strabismus angle for Amblyopia and Strabismus screening with objective documentation of Strabismus amplitude

Volk Eye Check can also help to quickly identify patients that are candidates for specialty lenses and reduce practice drop-out rates. An estimated 6 million contact users drop out of lens wear each year, 12 percent of those due to the discomfort of poorly fitting lenses1.

Eye Check measurement parameters that facilitate lens fitting are:
• Horizontal Visible Iris Diameter (HVID) to assess correct contact lens diameter
• Pupil diameter and eccentricity for GP lens fitting and multi focal contact lens choice
• Lid margin to pupil margin for bifocal lens fitting

Riester launches the latest Stethoscope at Medicall 2014.

Riester introduced the Latest Stethoscope in the Indian Market at the Medicall 2014 show. The 12th Medicall Expo was held in Chennai from Aug 1-3. Medicall is India’s premier hospital needs and equipment exposition and the biggest of its kind in India.

Medicall brings the latest, appropriate and affordable technologies, for the benefit of all hospitals including smaller hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and physicians setting up group practice. The annual conference saw over 10,000 doctors, medical professionals and related people attending the conference and expo.

Riester’s New Stethoscope with constructed cardiophon 2.0 and duplex® 2.0 assign nothing less than a quantum leap in the quality of acoustics. Auscultation (listening to the internal sounds of the body) is significantly disturbed by interfering side noise. Therefore during the construction phase of the cardiophon2.0 and the duplex® 2.0 special attention has been paid to the design of the binaural and the ear-tips. The contact pressure of the binaural can be adjusted individually; the ear-tips are pivotable and made of extra-soft material. Altogether the ear canal is perfectly sealed against external side noise. In addition, disturbing noise due to the friction between the ear-tips and the ear will be avoided, even if the stethoscope is moving.

Riester Stethoscope

Riester stethoscopes are manufactured to an uncompromisingly high quality standard. The production of the binaural for example is automated. This guarantees a perfect production of the binaural at the ear. The chest-pieces are manufactured using latest CNC-technology to minimize any tolerances – a precondition, which allowed the novel sound pick-up system of cardiophon 2.0 and duplex® 2.0. The continuously high level of quality is guaranteed by multiple quality checks under our 1SO:9001 quality management along with the trademark German art of precision.

For such a regular but key diagnostic tool, the technology and clarity of Riester’s stethoscope got the attention of the key opinion leaders in the Medical industry of South India. Riester’s presence at Medicall through their channel partner ‘Naik Meditech’ saw the exhibition booth being visited by key doctors and professionals from the Apollo, SRM TVS group, Manipal GKNM, and many other prestigious groups in the four southern states of India.

Doctor-Developed Iridotomy Lens from Volk for Laser Glaucoma Treatment

Blumenthal Iridotomy lens design next generation for iridectomy

Volk Optical has launched a new specialty lens for iridotomy procedures. Developed in conjunction with Eytan Blumenthal MD, the Blumenthal Iridotomy Lens design increases access to the periphery for more efficient glaucoma treatment with less potential for damage to surrounding tissues.

Volk Optical has launched a new specialty lens for iridotomy procedures.

Volk Optical has launched a new specialty lens for iridotomy procedures.

The design of the contact lens indents the cornea to open the angle and flatten the peripheral iris, delivering better patient outcomes with less post-laser inflammation. The Blumenthal Iridotomy’s precise positioning and sharply focused laser spot minimizes iris tissue collateral damage and distances the cornea from the iris to reduce the risk of endothelial cell damage.

The Blumenthal Iridotomy lens improves over classic lenses, as it is the only lens with corneal indentation capability for enhanced viewing of the far periphery. Constructed using Volk’s patented aspheric optics, the lens delivers better image quality and improved laser burn. Lower energy is required, reducing thermal collateral damage. The large lens housing improves lens grip and alignment for oblique viewing of the entire chamber.

Eytan Blumenthal, MD is Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Rambam Health Care Campus (Hafia, Isreal). This is his second lens collaboration with Volk.
