New Modular Pneumatic Valve+ Interlock Range from Fortress Interlocks

Fortress Interlocks has redeveloped its Pneumatic Valve+ (PV+) unit into a modular design that allows the configuration of an array of valves, trapped key interlocks and key switches in any combination.

The PV+ is suitable for the isolation of a pneumatic power source and is conventionally key-free, but the revised modular design allows the unit to be used in conjunction with other functional modules, giving the user flexibility.

The PV+ has been designed to complement the Fortress mGard range of mechanical key interlocks for heavy applications, which work by releasing and trapping keys in a predetermined sequence to ensure safe operation of dangerous machinery; access is not permitted until a safe condition has been achieved.

With the new PV+, a combination of isolation/access keys is possible, with sequential or non-sequential key operation available. Because mGard is designed to be modular, it is possible to add modules to create unique configurations. The PV+ has been designed with a zinc alloy valve body and mild steel zinc coated plates.

About Fortress Interlocks:
Based in the United Kingdom, Fortress Interlocks (www.fortressinterlocks.com) designs and manufactures mechanical and electromechanical interlocking systems. These provide many benefits to a wide variety of industrial sectors, including metal processing, power generation and distribution, automotive, pulp and paper, textiles and material processing.

Like the whole COMMANDER™ range, the L1 is vandal-proof and resists dust and liquids, thanks to its toughened glass construction. Being glass, the module is naturally more resistant to germs than porous surfaces. With its dual illumination, elevator calls are clearly confirmed to the user.

The L1 is the latest addition to the COMMANDER™ suite of touch-enabled elevator control products, which include printed glass and LCD car operating panels and LCD building information centres. COMMANDER™ products are available in India from TL Jones India Pvt. Ltd.

SpectroCam utilizes a single wideband CCD, capable of measurements covering the spectrum from UV through Near Infrared (NIR) wavelengths. Using a discrete set of application-specific wavelengths, the SpectroCam creates high-resolution images. This targeted spectral approach produces visual data that can be customized for a variety of applications in military, agricultural, medical and industrial markets.

OTF’s SpectroCam is available in a Development Kit that includes a set of filters covering the most commonly used wavelengths, for R&D teams needing a quick turnkey solution in proof-of-concept studies. Filters and sensors can also be customized to conform to specific needs and the cameras are easily re-configured for OEM applications. A proprietary design enables a quick delivery time, while providing a system that suits specific application needs. The SpectroCam offers a cost-effective and versatile solution for any multispectral imaging and sensing project.

Crowcon’s Xgard IR gas detector now approved to latest amendment of Marine Equipment Directive

Crowcon’s Xgard IR infrared (IR) gas detector is now approved to the latest amendment of the Marine Equipment Directive (MED, 96/98/EC). This means the low cost detector can be used to detect flammable gases and vapour hazards on tankers, drilling ships, FPSOs, dive vessels, coastguard vessels, ferries and other marine vessels.

Applications for the Xgard IR include pump rooms and monitoring leaks in storage tanks, pipes and valves. It provides fast early warning of gas accumulations before concentrations reach flammable levels. Detection is in the range 0 – 100% LEL.

Unlike conventional sensors (such as catalytic pellistors) the Xgard IR’s sensor is immune to being poisoned or inhibited by other substances. Infrared sensing has other benefits too: unlike pellistors, IR sensors will fail to safety, detect flammable gas in inert backgrounds and are not damaged by high gas concentrations.

The Xgard IR is available with a 316 stainless steel enclosure for maximum corrosion resistance in the most extreme marine environments. The sensor, which has a life expectancy of over 5 years, is a simple plug-in module that makes replacement quick and easy. ATEX, IECEx and UL approved for use in hazardous areas, the Xgard IR is also Exd flameproof rated.

The standard junction box is designed for both wall and ceiling mounting, and four cable gland options ensure compatibility on any site. The detector takes a range of accessories for harsh or wet conditions and for remote sampling.
