With a slight lens rotation, the Mini 4 Mirror offers a full view of the chamber angle at 1.0x magnification.  The small body and ring ease manipulation of the lens, especially within a small orbit.  Volk’s proprietary contact design has the stability of a flanged contact without the use of viscous interface solutions required by typical flanged lenses. Artificial tears or a thick natural tear layer is all that is required for patient comfort.

A broadband coating reduces glare and reflections and maximizes laser throughput.  It is an excellent complement to a standard 4 mirror Gonio lens, offering additional flexibility with a smaller body.

Riester’s newly developed IPC (Integrated PowerConverter) within the e-scope® uses state-of-the-art technology, efficiently converting the voltage of conventional size AA alkaline batteries into the optimum voltage supply needed to power an LED. Compared to halogen or xenon bulbs, LED technology offers a brighter, whiter light with reduced reflection for colour-neutral illumination that facilitates an accurate diagnosis. LEDs last up to 6000 times longer than xenon illumination and the alkaline batteries need to be disposed of and replaced less often. The long LED lifetime, over 20 000 hours minimum, means e-scope® pocket instruments are low maintenance and environmentally friendly.

German engineered and manufactured, Riester’s e-scope® pocket instruments are made of strong materials and suitable for both physicians and students alike. Made of glass-fibre reinforced plastic with exchangeable heads, the instruments can be easily switched on and off using the slide-switch on the handle. In addition, e-scope® otoscope specula are compatible with Riester’s ri-mini®, pen-scope®, ri-scope® L1 and L2 and other reputable otoscope manufacturers. With a metal clip for secure attachment, the lightness and precision of the e-scope makes it a handy companion, not only during rounds and house calls, but also in daily use.

e-scope® otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes are also available with conventional, standard halogen and xenon illumination.

New FDA Testing Method for Labsphere Sunscreen UV Transmittance Analyser

Partnership with Q-Lab brings customer savings

Labsphere, maker of the UV-2000S Transmittance Analyser for Sunscreens, has developed a new software routine allowing sunscreens to be characterised per the latest global in-vitro testing standards. This addition, available immediately, to the analyser’s software anticipates the release by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of its final rule for in-vitro sunscreen testing.

(Photo caption: Labsphere’s UV-2000S software has been upgraded for the new FDA testing method)

Labsphere’s UV-2000S Transmittance Analyzer benchtop R&D system is designed to rapidly measure the spectral transmittance of sunscreen products, especially those with very high sun protection factors (SPF 50+), as well as UVA/UVB protection factor. Its application software automatically converts measurement data to provide the Sun Protective Factor (SPF), UVA to UVB ratio, critical wavelength (COLIPA 2009), Boot Star Rating, UVA I/UV ratio (FDA proposed rule) and UVA-PF (COLIPA Method).

The platform allows users to view, archive, retrieve and export data for measurements on both bare substrates and product substrates and supports evolving regional methods.  Labsphere also plans to incorporate proposed changes to Euro-commission (COLIPA) guidelines, the FDA monograph and to add new ISO guidelines to future software releases, as these tests are issued by the relevant regulatory bodies. The most recent software is supplied with new purchases of the UV-2000S and current users can upgrade with subscription-based updates.

The FDA’s proposed rule and the new emerging ISO and COLIPA standards will also require the use of a device for exposing sunscreens to a specified solar irradiance photostability testing.  Labsphere has arranged a marketing partnership with a world leader in weathering and solar aging testing equipment, Q-Lab Corporation (www.q-lab.com).  Any customer that acquires a Labsphere UV2000S and Q-Lab Q-Sun Xenon Light Stability Tester within six months of each other will be eligible for special pricing on both products.

To speak to someone about your unique applications please contact Vikrant Mahajan, Labsphere’s USA-based Applications Engineering Manager, on e-mail: vmahajan@labsphere.com or telephone: +1 603 927 4266 (extension 2198).

Jaz is a family of stackable components that share common electronics and communications. Included in the Jaz stack is a CCD-array spectrometer that can be optimized for a variety of measurements and a microprocessor with display. With Jaz-SPL, the power of its onboard microprocessor can be harnessed with scripts for simple data acquisition, processing and export of results to an SD card. An Ethernet-equipped Jaz can be remotely controlled by a PC, or the Jaz can run the script from an SD card with no need for a PC. As a reference point for starting new scripts, sample scripts and a programming language reference manual are included with the software.

The modular design of the Jaz family, with user-selected grating and slit options optimized for a variety of application needs, allows it to be customized for a range of applications in field, lab or process environments. With the new software, users will be able to further tailor measurements to their requirements, without any special programming knowledge.
