NIRQuest512-2.5 extends wavelength range without sacrificing optical resolution

Ocean Optics (www.oceanoptics.com) has expanded the capabilities of its small-footprint near-infrared spectrometers with the introduction of NIRQuest512-2.5. A high-resolution device with response from 900-2500 nm, NIRQuest512-2.5 is well suited to laser characterization and applications requiring longer integration times.

A high-stability, 512-element Hamamatsu Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs)-array detector doubles the amount of pixels previously available in the 900-2500 nm range, significantly increasing optical resolution.  Depending on the user-selected configuration of grating options and optical bench entrance slit size, optical resolution as good as 4.1 nm-6.3 nm (FWHM) is possible.  The lower overall dark noise of the system enables longer integration times, which is especially useful in low light level environments.

Users are able to capture data when an external event occurs, or to trigger an event after data acquisition, with the spectrometer’s external hardware triggering functions.  Spectrometer operation is controlled using SpectraSuite software, a modular, Java-based spectroscopy platform.  In addition, NIRQuest512-2.5 can be bundled with the Remora Network Adapter from Ocean Optics to turn the system into a multi-user spectral data server over Ethernet or existing Wi-Fi connection.

The high surface quality and light transmission of the new lenses overcome the optical quality issues typically associated with disposable lenses to ensure the best possible optics for viewing of all segments of the retina.  An integrated silicone stabilizing ring holds the lenses on the cornea without the need for sutures or an assistant, reducing surgical prep time and trauma to the patient.

The lenses come in a dual sterile package ready to use and are discarded after each procedure.  Processing time to sterilize lenses between surgeries is eliminated. A low cost per use means there is no trade-off between convenience and expense.

The new Disposable Direct Image Vitrectomy Lenses are available in five styles: a Direct Image Flat lens (36° Field of View, 1.0x Magnification) for views of the posterior pole; a Direct Image Magnifying lens (30° Field of View, 1.5x Magnification) to visualize central retinal pathology in greater detail; a Direct Image Wide Field (48° Field of View, .5x Magnification) for wider field of views than the standard Flat lens; Direct Image Bi-Concave (25° Field of View, .8x Magnification) for Air Fluid Exchange procedures; and the Direct Image 30° Prism (33° Field of View-30° offset, .1x Magnification) for off-axis retinal views.

TL Jones Supplies Elevator Safety and Information Systems to Dr L H Hirananadani Hospital in Mumbai

The Microscan light curtains, which are installed on the elevator doors, produce 154 invisible criss-cross beams and prevent the elevator doors closing when there is an obstruction. The elevator interiors are lit by energy efficient LED down-lights which are situated on the ceiling and provide bright, clear light, enhancing the appearance of the elevator interior.

The 15-inch, multimedia  Evolution S2 elevator displays can show live TV or DVD feeds, internet messages, live scrolling messages (such as welcome messages to dignitaries) and emergency information, as well as the usual elevator information such as floor number and direction of travel. The building operator can also edit the information in real time, according to their requirements. The displays’ TFT screens have wide viewing angle of 178 degrees from all four sides. Evolution S1 displays act as car position indicators. In addition, 3D LED-based hall lanterns with viewing angles of 180 degrees are installed in all the landings of the hospital.

The high-end, interactive elevator products were endorsed by Tak Consultants, the elevator consultants for Hiranandani Construction. The elevators are supplied by City Elevators Private Limited.

New disposable Macintosh and Miller laryngoscope blades for single use are made from robust Makrolon® plastic. Blades are available in bundles of 20, with each blade individually packed in a plastic zipper bag which is perforated for quick and easy opening. Single-use blades help prevent cross-contamination and are appropriate for emergency situations.

In addition, Riester has introduced both standard LED handles and plug-in powered LED handles for use with both reusable and disposable laryngoscope blades. High performance LEDs are available in 2.5V and 3.5V versions, which allow the operator to choose between using alkaline or rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries as a power supply. LEDs offer a whiter, more intense light, and can operate for more than 20 000 hours. Plug-in Laryngoscope handles are available as 230V or 120V, and customers can choose between 3.5V Xenon or 3.5V LED versions.

The company offers various mounting plates and brackets for the reflector prisms, allowing easy fixing and positioning of either a single- or 4-prism array to surfaces at almost any angle. Protective cages for the Fireray 5000 detector head and controller units are also available, in addition to those for the Fireray 50/100R and Fireray 2000 models.

The Prism Plate for either 1 or 4 prisms is suitable for situations where the wall facing the detector head is perpendicular to the angle of the beam. Where this is not the case, the Prism Plate can be attached to a Universal Bracket that fixes to the wall, allowing the angle of the prisms to be adjusted to reflect the beam back correctly. The reinforced Surface Mount Plate is another option, providing a particularly rigid and secure fixing.

The Protective Cages are made from plastic-coated galvanised steel and will protect detector heads and controller units from accidental knocks. Ladders, forklifts and other moving equipment in a warehousing or industrial setting could easily catch one of the wall-mounted devices, and the cages will help prevent damage or misalignment that may occur. Similarly, in leisure facilities, they will protect the fire detection system from flying footballs, tennis balls and other potential sources of knocks. The cages will also offer some protection against birds and bats, however care should be taken that the detectors’ lenses remain unobscured to prevent false alarms or unnecessary fault alerts.

The Iso-Lok padlock range is designed to uphold the integrity of the user’s LOTO safety system by guaranteeing that each padlock on any one site is unique – that each one ‘differs’ from the others so that it can only be unlocked by the specific key meant for it. This is achieved by supplying each padlock with a distinct barrel which has a differ (key) number associated with that barrel.

Every differ number is stored on the Iso-Lok database, referenced against the customer and the site it was delivered to. This enables the company to very simply and reliably identify differs previously supplied in the past, and therefore prevent any padlock differ duplication.

Iso-Lok is the only company to automatically record differs on a site or company-wide basis rather than just per order, ensuring the validity of and enhancing their customers’ safety systems over time. The newly developed database allows the company to process orders more efficiently, trace differs per site more easily, and gather more data more quickly – further improving on the already uniquely beneficial system.

Neal Partridge, Castell’s Head of Quality, commented: “The main advantage of this system is that it records the actual operatives and the entries they make into the database, which provides a greater level of verification and validation, and minimises errors. The integrity of this new system has helped to further improve our Quality Assurance process for Iso-Lok padlocks.”
