Slovakian Water Park & Spa Opts For UV Disinfection
Aqua City, a major new water park and spa resort in Slovakia, has chosen Hanovia UV systems to treat the water in its geothermal pools. Hanovia UV also treats the water for a decorative fountain. “We chose UV because research shows it to be the most effective and economical way of ensuring our water is free from harmful pathogens,” said Aqua City’s managing director Jan Telensky, who is the main financier of the resort. “In addition, UV also maintains the natural minerals in the water,” he added.

The geothermal, mineral-rich water is drawn from a vast underground lake 1, 600 metres below the Earth’s surface. Although pure, the water is treated with UV as a precaution to ensure no microorganisms are present. UV destroys 99.99% of all known water-borne microorganisms, including Cryptosporidium and its spores, which are known to be chlorine-resistant.
“We are extremely happy with the way the Hanovia UV systems are working,” added Mr Telensky. “They are easy to operate and maintain and give us peace of mind, knowing that our visitors are enjoying water that is completely pure.”
UV is a harmless, non-toxic, low maintenance technology that is highly effective at treating water for optimum quality. Hanovia UV disinfection systems are compact and can usually be installed within existing pipework with minimal disruption or down-time. Operation and maintenance is simple and can easily be carried out by on-site staff. Because UV reduces the need for chlorination, it also helps to reduce costs.
