Safety Interlocking company Fortress Interlocks has added its new E1, Extracted Key Adaptor, to the amGard range of modular safety gate switch interlocks. The E1 has been designed to ensure that the door to hazardous machinery cannot be opened without removing the safety key, and the machinery cannot then be restarted until the key is returned.
Fortress has achieved this by designing a mechanism that traps the actuator in the head until the key is removed which then allows the ‘gate’ to swing over the keyhole. While the actuator remains out of the head, the gate remains over the keyhole preventing the key being returned to the lock.
E1 ensures a specific sequence of operation and can be stacked or combined with other adaptors; up to 5 key adaptors can be used in one configuration. E1 also provides a unique link to Fortress’ high profile mechanical mGard range of interlocks.
E1 works with access key and safety key adapters, amGard LOK or STOP bodies and is suitable for either hinged or sliding door applications. New position creates dedicated liaison for channel partners
Erlanger, K.Y. (June 16, 2011) – To better serve its North American distributors, Fortress Interlocks has appointed Josie Dewald Marketing Coordinator. Dewald will provide sales and customer service support for the company’s line of safety interlocking products to its sales team and channel partners in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil.

Dewald comes to Fortress from the Trak Group (Cincinnati, Ohio), where she was an account manager providing recruiting services to clients in the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati area. Prior to that, Dewald worked in banking, specializing in commercial lending.

Fortress Interlocks has introduced a safety EH door Handle as part of its amGard range of safety interlocks. The stainless steel EH Handle is used in conjunction with Fortress’ actuator head and is designed to be intuitive with a 90° rotating handle that can be used on either left or right handing doors.
The EH Handle offers an escape release option as standard, ensuring the safety of operators at all times. It also has lock-out features and can support up to four padlocks with a shackle diameter of 8mm.

Fortress has redeveloped its Pneumatic Valve+ (PV+) unit into a modular design that allows the configuration of an array of valves, trapped key interlocks and key switches in any combination.
The PV+ is suitable for the isolation of a pneumatic power source and is conventionally key-free, but the revised modular design allows the unit to be used in conjunction with other functional modules, giving the user flexibility.
The PV+ has been designed to complement the Fortress mGard range of mechanical key interlocks for heavy applications, which work by releasing and trapping keys in a predetermined sequence to ensure safe operation of dangerous machinery; access is not permitted until a safe condition has been achieved.

Fortress Interlocks has introduced the DMSK into its DM (Door Module) robust modular access interlock range. The DMSK is a stainless steel single door interlock specially designed for hygienic areas and suitable for all types of doors. Its minimal design helps reduce dirt traps while protecting workers from hazardous areas.
As part of an interlock system, DM locks are used to control access to enclosed areas until a safe condition has been achieved. In a typical operation sequence, the key is inserted into the lock and turned; the actuator is disengaged and the door opened. The key remains trapped until the door is closed and the actuator re-engaged; other sequences are available.

The DM module benefits from a revolutionary head design which features a choice of 4 head rotation angles with an adjustment of 360° at 90° increments and 2 actuator entry points.

Safety Interlock XMR Key Exchange Unit with Integrated Switch Function from Fortress Interlocks
The XMR unit simplifies the traditional interlock procedures for safeguarding potentially dangerous machines and areas with multiple access doors. By simply turning the first key of the XMR the safety contacts are broken, isolating the machine power. This key is then trapped and the other access keys can then be used to open the door locks allowing access to the safeguarded areas. Only when all keys are returned to the XMR can the machine be restarted. Therefore using the XMR, separate key transfer between an (isolation) key switch and key exchange unit is no longer needed, providing a simplified and cost efficient solution for lots of safeguarding applications.
The XMR is available in different switch currents and switch contacts. Besides the standard back of board version an enclosed version (IP67) is available.

Industrial safety specialist Fortress Interlocks has introduced an ATEX Certified, explosion protected safety switch key station. The CPS4STOPXP key station is designed to release keys which can be used to control mechanical door locks that provide access to machinery and process lines operating in potentially explosive environments. Both the switch and the door locks are suitable for use in zone 1 and 2 environments such as those found in the chemical and petrochemical, paint, pharmaceutical, flour, powders and mining industries; the electrical parts are ingress protected to IP67.

The heavy duty CPS4STOPXP safety switch key station is explosion protected, available with up to a maximum of 5 safety key adaptors. By turning the first key the machine is isolated and the other 4 keys are released. These keys can be used to open a maximum of 5 ATEX Certified ‘DM’ mechanical door locks that give access to the safeguarded area. Restarting the machine is only possible when all keys are back in the CPS4STOPXP key control station. This interlocking system complies with the ATEX Directive, meeting the European Hazardous Location Designation: EExd IIC T6 category II2 GD, SIRA 00ATEX 1037X. Sealed to IP67 and IEC 60529 it is protected against corrosion, water, dust and oil.
