Fiberguide Features Polyimide Coated Optical Fibers at SPIE

Coating protects fibers in extreme environmental, mechanical and thermal conditions

Stirling, N.J. (June 26, 2009) – Fiberguide Industries will feature its full line of standard optical fibers with polyimide coating at the SPIE Optics + Photonics show.  Demonstrations of the high performance coating will be available at the company’s booth, # 709, from August 2 – 6 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California.

High performance polyimide coatings from Fiberguide at SPIE 2009.

While conventional coatings such as acrylate, nylon and Tefzel® begin to deteriorate between 100ºC and 250ºC, Fiberguide’s polyimide coating/ buffer can withstand operating temperatures up to 400ºC (300ºC continuous).  The rugged fiber is ideal for oil and gas, aerospace, sensors, defense, medical and security applications requiring high temperature resistance.

Additionally, Fiberguide’s unique process of applying the coating results in a fiber of significantly reduced cross-sectional area.  This low profile characteristic is optimal for use in bundles and supports spectral transmission from 160nm to 2500nm.
