Omnifit® Bubble Trap for In-Line Removal of Bubbles in Laboratory Instrumentation

Cambridge, UK (April 29, 2009) – Diba Industries, under its Omnifit® brand, has launched a new bubble trap for effective, in-line removal of bubbles in aqueous solutions. Positioned upstream of sensitive instrumentation and pressure rated up to 30 psi, the bubble trap protects valuable sensors from damage and prevents errors caused by gas bubbles in an analytical flow system. Typical applications include flow analysis systems, liquid chromatography, enzyme reactors and flow-through biosensors.

The principle of operation is simple: when a fluid containing bubbles flows through the device, any bubbles are forced through a micro-porous, hydrophobic membrane, while the fluid is retained within the bubble trap. Because the membrane function depends on its hydrophobicity, the bubble trap is only suitable for use with aqueous systems.

The unit is quick and easy to connected in-line using 1/4”-28 UNF female threaded ports and fittings such as Omni-Lok™. While the maximum flow rate is dependent upon the amount of bubbles in the liquid, the typical operating range is 0.5 – 2.0ml/min. Up to 6ml/min can be achieved if few bubbles are present in the liquid.

Customers can mix and match a wide range of ferrule types, fitting nut designs and colours, tubing sizes and materials to custom configure their ideal system. They can also choose single or multiple tubing sets, fittings at one or both ends of a line, different coloured fitting nuts for colour coding fluid lines, and mesh wrapping to simplify tubing management within an instrument.

The tubing sets are assembled to exact specifications by Diba’s skilled production staff, ensuing a perfect, leak-free connection. The most popular options for instrument manufacturers are from the Omni-Lok fitting range, which features a compact fitting nut in robust, glass-filled polypropylene or PEEK and a choice of chemically inert ferrule types.

The Omni-Lok fitting nut also features a recess to house the ferrule, allowing maximum thread engagement with the port. This ensures the system stays sealed up to the rated pressure even in shallow or PTFE ports. The nut can spin freely, eliminating tubing twist and is available in a choice of nine colours for easy colour-coding of fluid lines. Fitting nuts are available in robust, glass-filled polypropylene or PEEK and in 1/4”-28 UNF, M6 and 5/16″-24 UNF thread types.

To support the new range of tubing sets the company has also published a comprehensive new fittings systems catalogue which details the complete range of Omnifit® fittings, connectors and adaptors, with particular emphasis given to the Omni-Lok range.

Diba Expands Click-N-Seal™ Line with Fittings for Barbed Connections

Torque-limiting design works with soft tubing
Danbury, CT (January 27, 2009) – Diba Industries has expanded its line of Click-N-Seal™ connection fittings to suit a wider range of fluid connection types.  Previously available for flared and ferrule connections, the company now offers the same torque assurance for barbed fluid connections.  The reusable fittings provide objective feedback to installers, preventing excess torque that can lead to leaks and flow problems.

Barbed CNS

The pre-assembled Click-N-Seal prevents the fitting over- or under-tightening in IVD and scientific equipment.  When the correct torque is reached, the reusable Click-N-Seal produces a click the installer can feel and hear, and physically prevents tightening beyond that point.  Poor fluid connections and leaky processing are eliminated without tools or guesswork.  The fitting can be unthreaded and re-used, stopping at the correct torque every time.

In the barbed fittings typically used with soft tubing such as Tygon, silicone or norprene, over-torquing can compress tubing, interrupting consistent fluid flow and leading to leaks.  The Click-N-Seal minimizes the torque problems inherent in barbed fittings used with flat bottom ports.

Click-N-Seal connections are available with ¼-28 and M6 thread size fittings in three colors for easy connection coding and identification.  Configurations are custom fit to any instrument manufacturer’s specification; customers may specify tubing material, inside diameter (I.D.) and outside diameter (O.D.) of up to 1/8”.

Following an extensive re-engineering programme, the company has now reduced the cost of its T-Series bottle caps. Featuring a PTFE* inner portion, which offers a high level of chemical compatibility, T-Series caps have an anti-twist design which allows the inner body of the cap to spin freely. This prevents tubes being twisted when the cap is fitted or removed and eliminates the need to disconnect fluid lines before unscrewing the cap.

The caps are very easy to use and require no fittings – standard 1/8” laboratory tubing is simply pushed through Luer ports on the top of the cap. These ports allow connection of other tubing sizes and types with a range of Luer adaptors which are available separately. Optional integrated check-valves and filters are also available, enabling pressure to be equalized within the bottle as liquid is drawn out and preventing particulate contamination.

Diba Introduces Click-N-Seal™ Ultra Line PEEK Fluid Connection Fittings

Reusable fitting with torque-limiting design most durable and stable model yet

Danbury, CT (July 29, 2008) – To provide a durable and thermally stable fluid connection fitting for the laboratory analysis industry, Diba Industries has once again expanded its line of patent pending Click-N-Seal™ connection fittings with the Click-N-Seal™ Ultra.

Diba’s Click-N-Seal™ Ultra connection fittings

The compact, torque-limiting Ultra fittings are made from Polyaryletheretherketone (PEEK) plastic, the industry standard for durability.  PEEK plastic allows the Ultra fittings to provide stability even at very high temperatures. It also makes them chemically resistant and tolerant of pressures up to 15,000 psi.

The Click-N-Seal™ line uses Diba’s Torque Right™ technology which prevents fittings from over- or under-tightening – causing poor fluid connections and leaky processing – without tools or guesswork. When the correct torque is reached the reusable Click-N-Seal™ produces a click the installer can feel and hear, physically preventing tightening beyond that point.  The fitting can be unthreaded and re-used, stopping at the correct torque every time.

Diba Assures Reactions at Consistent Body Temperature

In-line Sample Heater brings samples up from storage temperature, maintains at body temperature

Danbury, CT (November 14, 2007) – Achieving and maintaining the consistent sample temperature required for accurate reaction results can be challenging. Diba Industries removes this process variable with In-line Sample Heaters for IVD and scientific analysis.  The embedded heater assembly brings samples from refrigerated temperature to reaction temperature and minimizes heat losses from transferring samples from warming vessels to reaction vessels, resulting in more accurate results.

Sample Heater

By handling the sample fluid within a contained, single unit, the sample can be easily heated to reaction temperature without being exposed to cooling elements.  The sample is aspirated into an inert fluid line, heated to temperature, and dispensed directly to the reaction vessel to mix with reagents.  The single line assembly, with no connection points, eliminates the collection of sample fluid in dead spaces to prevent carryover problems.

Diba’s In-line Sample Heaters, Flared Tubing Assemblies, and Torque Right fittings produce a consistent fluid path and internal tubing diameter in any type of fluid line, eliminating leaks, dead volumes and carryover problems.  Diba also offers a complete line of aspirate/dispense, piercing, level sensing, vented, fluoropolymer coated and fluoropolymer lined reagent and sample transfer probes.

In-line Sample Heater materials and configurations are custom fit to any instrument manufacturer’s specification.

Level Sensing Probes Ensure Smooth Processing

Diba’s aspirate and dispensing sensing probes monitor empty and full conditions
Danbury, CT (June 6, 2007) – For automatic control in analytical instruments, Diba’s Conductive Level Sensing Probes monitor liquid quantity, notifying system software when processing fluid bottles have reached full or empty states.  In addition to allowing instrument software to detect and react to system status, Diba’s fluoropolymer lined aspirate and dispense probes provide an inert, consistent fluid path with no possibility of leaks from tip to pump.

 Diba Level Sense Probes

Diba’s Level Sensing Probes accurately monitor sample levels in cuvettes, as well as waste, reagent, and buffer solutions, providing analytical instrument software the information needed to direct system changes.  Depending on the application, information from the probes can be used by the system to automatically stop processing until reagent or buffer solution is replenished or a waste bottle is emptied.  The compact probes require only a simple electrical connection and have no moving parts to fail, resulting in more reliable operation when compared to the bulky float switches traditionally used for level sensing.

The inner diameter of Diba’s stainless steel probe can be lined with PTFE or FEP fluoropolymer tubing to create a single inert fluid path, eliminating the possibility of unwanted chemical interaction and the potential introduction of air along the entire length of the tube.  The design reduces carryover and improves wash capabilities, retaining the necessary flow characteristics for efficient system performance.

Conductive Level Sensing probes are available in a variety of standard sizes or custom configurations, operating as either aspirate only or dispense only probes, or as combination aspirate/dispense probes.  Customers can specify probe material, inside diameter (I.D.) and outside diameter (O.D.) with flush, angle cut or protruded tip designs.  Diba’s technical staff is available to assist in specifying configurations suited to any application.

Diba’s Click-N-Seal™ Connection Tightens Consistently

Reusable fitting’s audible and tactile cues assure proper torque every time

Danbury, CT (March 15, 2007) – Hand tightening fluid connection fittings is typically a guessing game; most specify “finger tight,” a subjective measurement that varies by person and finger strength. Guessing wrong and over tightening a fitting can result in poor fluid connections and leaky processing. Diba Industries’ patent pending Click-N-Seal™ connection fittings, part of its Torque Right™ line, eliminate this process variable.  The reusable fittings provide objective feedback that the required torque for a proper seal has been achieved, and prevent excess torque.

Diba’s Click-N- Seal connection Torque Right fittings

Tightening of the preassembled Click-N-Seal increases resistance against the installer’s fingers until the correct torque is reached. The connection then clicks and further turning of the fitting does not increase the force applied. The installer can feel and hear the click that indicates the fitting is properly seated, and the Click-N-Seal physically prevents any tightening beyond that point. This audible and tactile indicator lets the installer hand tighten fittings without tools (such as a torque wrench), or guesswork. The ergonomic design results in less strain on the user, eliminates installer error, speeds field service times and facilitates training.

The fitting is designed to be unthreaded by simply turning it backwards, and can then be reused. Even through repeated threading and unthreading, the Click-N-Seal prevents over tightening, stopping at the specified torque every time.

When paired with Diba’s Flared Tubing Assemblies, Torque Right fittings with the Click-N-Seal connection produce a continuous, fully swept Fluoropolymer fluid path with a consistent internal tubing diameter in sample, reagent, wash, waste and other types of lines. These tight connections greatly reduce or eliminate dead volumes and carryover problems.

Click-N-Seal connections are available with a standard ¼-28 thread size fitting in three colors for easy connection coding and identification.  Custom configurations with Diba’s Flared Tubing Assemblies are also available; customers may specify tubing material, inside diameter (I.D.) and outside diameter (O.D.) of up to 1/8”.

Thermoformed Tubing Assemblies the Right Fit

Danbury, CT (November 3, 2006) – Tight spaces in analytical instruments can often make it difficult to maintain consistent fluid paths in regular tubing.  Thermoformed tubing assemblies from Diba Industries can be custom designed with bends and coils that fit neatly into instruments, preventing kinking and improper installation for problem-free processing.

 Diba Thermoformed Tubing

Sample, reagent, wash, waste and other fluids pass smoothly through the precision bends and coils of thermoformed tubing, minimizing blockages and maintaining desired flow rate.  The tubing design creates a one way fit, ensuring that assemblies can only be installed in the correct direction.  The ends of the thermoformed fluoropolymer tubing are flared using Diba’s proprietary thermal forming technique and backed with a washer and threaded bottom seal fitting to create a leak tight seal.

Thermoformed tubing can be configured in any shape needed.  Available tubing materials include FEP, PTFE, PFA, ETFE, PVC, LDPE, PVDF, TPU, and PEEK.  With the ability to maintain tight tolerances, Diba offers inside diameters from .010” to .875” and outside diameter of 1.00”.  Assemblies can be custom labeled and packaged, with nine distinct fitting colors available, to speed instrument build cycle and field service times.  Diba’s technical staff is available to assist in specifying configurations suited to any application.
