Ian’s presence in Shanghai expected to accelerate actions for the China market

Both FFE and Avire are Halma companies within Halma’s Infrastructure Safety Sector.  Ian has already relocated to Shanghai and his family will be joining him shortly.

Prior to taking the helm at Avire, Ian was managing director of FFE for more than six years. He has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and sales of electronic detectors, monitors and related products and services that guarantee infrastructure safety in commercial and residential properties. Ian studied chemistry at Halton Technical College.

Sixty per cent of the world’s lifts are now manufactured in China and Halma has been successfully keeping pace with the expansion of this important market.

Nigel Trodd, Halma’s sector chief executive of Infrastructure Safety, said: “Ian’s industry experience and insight are great assets for the long-term sustainable growth of Avire. And his board presence in Shanghai is expected to accelerate actions for the China market.”

Avire Shanghai has developed steadily in the past year with the new TL Jones K Class product developed for the Chinese market. Meanwhile the company’s European-produced Memco products are achieving success at the premium end of the market. In the past year, Avire Shanghai has established a much stronger R&D team under new leadership and the company’s sales and finance teams have been updated and strengthened.  Having moved to a bright, spacious modern facility in mid-2013, Avire Shanghai has also added new SMT (PCB assembly) equipment and a conveyor assembly line.

Ian Steel said: “I am delighted to join Avire at a very exciting time for the company. The team has worked incredibly hard to ensure that the business will continue to grow into the future. I am particularly looking forward to my time in Shanghai, which I am sure will provide both personal and professional growth.”
