Voice Announcements Add Another Layer of Safety to Janus Edges

Panachrome 3D elevator safety edges can now be programmed with audible warnings
Hauppauge, N.Y. (February 22, 2010) –Panachrome 3D elevator safety edges from Janus Elevator Products combine premium infrared protection with illuminated segments that visually inform passengers when it is safe to enter or leave the elevator.  A new Voice Annunciator option adds audio information for safety that targets two passenger senses.

The Panachrome Voice Annunciator option delivers audio elevator door warnings.

The Panachrome Voice Annunciator option delivers audio elevator door warnings.

Designed specifically for sites where additional safety is required by users, such as retirement homes, hospitals and public access buildings, the Panachrome Voice Annunciator option would provide audio cues for passengers who may not be able to see, or may fail to notice, visual cues of door movement.  Customer selected messages such as “Doors are opening, safe to enter,” and “Doors are closing, please use caution,” are factory pre-recorded for quick installation.  Volume can be controlled and adjusted on-site.

The appropriate voice message is triggered by a relay from the detector’s control box, which is signaled by the door open/close signals from the door operator motor.  The Voice Annunciator option is available on all new Panachrome 3D edges and as an upgrade on installed edges.

In addition to the Voice Annunciator option, all Panachrome 3D edges feature red/green illuminated visual indicators standard.  The illuminated segments glow green when it is safe to enter and exit the elevator and change to red to signal that the doors are about to close.

The Panachrome 3D uses a combination of 3D detection in the landing zone and 2D detection between the doors, with a 154-beam light curtain offering maximum passenger protection. The edges are available in an Ultraslim 3/8 inch profile in addition to the standard 1 5/8 inch profile.  Custom operating mode configurations to suit particular installation needs.  The ‘timeout’ mode is ideal for hospitals as the doors will only start to close if the detection zone is clear, giving gurneys and wheelchairs time to enter the elevator safely.  At airports, it allows passengers with luggage carts and suitcases to avoid early door closings as they board the elevator.

The product complies with ADA requirements and the detectors can be used on both center-opening and side-opening doors.
